This Week Around Town: Election Results, Markets & More

Welcome to our weekly rundown of what's happening around Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, and the rest of Nassau County. Grab a coffee — here's what's going on.

At the ballot box

Tuesday's primary (August 18) settled several local races. In the Nassau County Commission, incumbents held their seats — A.M. "Hupp" Huppmann took District 2, and Alyson McCullough won a close District 4 contest. Lissa Braddock kept her School Board District 5 seat, and Scott Inglis won the Fernandina Beach City Commission Group 4 race. Voters also spoke clearly on downtown parking: roughly 75% backed the measure requiring voter approval before the city can implement paid parking.

The parking conversation continues

Speaking of parking — how to manage downtown Fernandina's busy streets is still very much a live topic, with the Nassau County Chamber recently calling for business owners, residents, and the city to work together on a plan. If you run a shop downtown, this one's worth keeping an eye on.

Out and about this weekend

The Fernandina Beach Farmers & Arts Market returns Saturday from 9am to 1pm in historic downtown — local produce, handmade goods, and a good excuse for a morning stroll. Looking ahead, Sounds on Centre brings free live music back to Centre Street on Friday, September 4. For the always-current list, check our Local Events page.
